Greetings Heisey Hunters,

Summer is drawing to a close, and we've had just wonderful weather lately with cool evenings and warm days. The leaves should be turning soon, the Holidays sneaking up on us. Time to get out the fall Heisey… which in my mind has always been the Sahara Warwick Floral bowl and candlesticks. Or maybe some of those nice fall leaves and Dahlia arrangements creative folks put together and place in some other Sahara or Moongleam bowl. How much more elegant can you get than to serve punch from a Heisey Prince of Wales Plume punch bowl at your neighborhood block party?

Which reminds me the topic for the November meeting will be Heisey around the home. I know many people use the Orchid etch or Rose for fine crystal on their dining room tables. I've even known a few people to collect two stems and they drink toasts at dinner to each other with Heisey. Then there are the lucky folks who have Electro-portables they use. I'm sure there are others who use their Heisey for more than display, and I'd like to hear about it. Those 351 Footed Ales for beer during a football game? Cake Plates? Crystolite candy dishes? The list goes on and on.

Why do I ask? We try to promote the glass as best we can, and although it is out of production, it is still a pleasure to use. Too often we get a mindset that it is a collectible, but Heisey is much more than just a collectible… it's usable, quality glass and can be more than a shining beacon of pride in a display. I know holding an Old Sandwich tumbler is an object of joy in my hand. We all can help promote the glass, and the new batch of collectors can be both educated and taught to enjoy Heisey for what it is… beautiful, functional and pleasurable.

Plans are underway for the 36th Annual All-Heisey Show, and we're looking for ideas to bring in more folks, asking for volunteers and any other comments or suggestions. Drop John or me a note or call… we're always available.

See you in Falls Church
