| Message from the Prez October 04
After the past month, I hope all of our club members in Florida and the Southeast survived the hurricanes that have plagued the region. I speak for the club when I say you are in our thoughts. It was good to start the club back up and see everyone after the summer vacation. Sadly, I had to report the death of Jack Swetnam, Jr., son of Gert Swetnam. Gert and her late husband Jack were long time members of the club, and dealers at our show. We were all shocked by the news and wish Gert well. Plans for the 33rd Annual All Heisey Show and Sale were made at the September meeting, and everyone has their assignments. Because of a scheduling conflict with the Bohrer Park Activity Center, this year’s show will be on the 2nd weekend of March, so mark your calendars. In last month’s newsletter, I called on all of our club members to bring in their “Finds of the Summer,” and boy-o-boy did they respond. The star of the program had to be Bob and Betty Heflin’s Heisey Bible, which they purchased at the Heisey Auction in June. The Bible appeared to be 1-1/2” tall by 1” wide by 1/2” thick, with a cutting of a cross on the front, and a floral cutting on the back. The Bible’s were whimsey items produced by Heisey, and given away as gifts. Unfortunately, I didn’t load the film in my camera correctly, so all the pictures I took of the program didn’t come out. That is why this month’s article is not about all our great finds. Luckily, I was holding this article by George Reynolds in reserve. The article was first printed in the May 1991 Heisey News. It was part of a large box of papers and articles sent to me after George’s death, by Dave and Rhoda Curley. George was a prolific writer, and the Curley’s thought I could make good use of his papers. Thank you very much! Our next program will be on Prison Stripe, by Chris Hartman. Please make plans to attend, and bring examples of the pattern. See ya at the next meeting, John Martinez John Martinez
