| Message from the Prez February 08 Greetings Heisey Hunters – It’s been a busy winter, and although the weather has been somewhat mild so far, I’m looking forward to warmer temperatures. We just haven’t been able to get out and search the far-flung remote areas for new Heisey treasures. There are the occasional finds at the Antique Malls and flea markets, but those places have been taking on a new look as there is some consolidation in the local markets. The 36th Annual All Heisey Show and Sale is on track for March, and this promises to be a banner year for attendance, providing we don’t get another ice storm. I’ve heard from many folks who plan to attend; some returning after a few years absence and many new folks who had not heard of our show before, but who look forward to it. Through the eBay portal, I’ve made an effort to contact many local folks who sell Heisey (and other glass) and invite them to drop by and witness the diversity of offerings the A. H. Heisey Company produced during their 60 years of production. Our efforts, as well as the HCA, have been to promote the glass and educate folks on the merits of Heisey as a practical alternative to modern offering and as a collectible. It’s all about knowing what the glass has to offer in quality and diversity. Through this and other study clubs, we strive to educate both new and seasoned collectors on patterns, etches, cuts, colors and nuances of the items. The immediate challenge is to keep the Gaithersburg show strong, intermediate term goal is to build our local club membership and long term to support the Museum and Heisey in general. To this end, we really would like your support, and ask that if you have specific questions or topic, that you contact one of us and ask for an article, or better yet, contribute some reflections of your own or personal experiences on the Heisey trail. And again, I encourage anyone who is passing through the central Ohio area to stop by and visit the newly arranged Museum in Newark. It truly is impressive. See you in Potomac
